Lyot.

Active dune mechanics within Lyot Crater on Mars create shifting barchan formations shaped by persistent winds under a thin atmosphere. Their flowing structures reflect the gradual movement of sediment across the crater floor, revealing wind as a force of continuous reshaping.

Lyot.

Lyot is a sculptural light with a diameter of 55 cm. The form originates from a hand-shaped clay model, which was digitally captured, enhanced and translated into a 3d print using quartz sand. The use of real quartz sand introduces a direct material connection to geological surface processes while giving the object its distinctive texture and appearance.

An adjustable warm LED light is integrated into the outer rim, revealing the relief of the surface through soft illumination and shadow, recalling the low-angle sunlight of the Martian landscape.

Lyot can be produced in a wide range of over 100 calibrated colour finishes to integrate with its architectural context, wall tone, or spatial environment.
